Libraries are rapidly moving toward new technologies such as next-generation library management systems and new discovery systems. Migrating to a new platform is not only a question of which technology you choose or how you move data, but how the library staff adjust to the change. While we provide training and documentation, we do not always anticipate the human elements of a migration. Often, even years after the new system is in place, the migration can have lingering repercussions in staff engagement and morale. However, library managers can play a crucial role in making the transition smooth. How do managers facilitate change in libraries to keep morale up, help combat change fatigue, and encourage staff engagement in the new technology? What are the best ways to communicate about new technologies, before, during, and after a major change? How can we encourage growth mindsets and exploration of new systems without pushing staff too far? This Lively Lunch will be an active discussion of best practices when addressing major changes in technology, for those who are anticipating a migration, those who have survived the move to a new platform, and the vendors that create these new systems.
