This session will provide a privacy update (for example: The increasing use of "browser fingerprinting, ability to tie datasets together, etc.).

The focus of the talk will stress that, while standards and the like are essential, the library should and can also be a community center (college campus, town, etc.) for accurate, current, and trustworthy info about privacy regardless if it directly relates to a library database.

Since people seem to trust libraries/librarians this is a natural fit in the digital age. The biggest challenge is that before we can begin this the library staff has to become more privacy aware of challenges, tools, etc. In other words, we need to first teach the teachers and then make sure they have the tools and methods to stay current.

Awareness also makes for better choices when it comes to working with vendors, etc.
All of this is not only important given the importance libraries make of privacy but it's also timely and "in the news" and a way for libraries and librarians to demonstrate their relevance.
