Until recently, two primary methods of acquiring e-book collections were available: outright purchases and leased subscriptions.  In recent years, Duke University Press (DUP) began offering a new model that combines both methods with the option of including corresponding print books. Both the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Florida acquire DUP monographs via this method (with the former also purchasing print counterparts). This lively lunch explores the contrasting rationales behind each library’s decision to implement and continue this method. Panelists will present the model and indicate how the model aligns with their differing collections philosophies, acquisitions strategies, funding models, and evaluation methodologies. A discussion of the merits and potential broader impact of the model will follow. Audience participation in the discussion is highly encouraged. Discussion prompts will be presented via a slideshow.
