The library-vendor relationship is complex, and the Charleston conference provides a venue to discuss and, hopefully, improve this business association. The presenters recognize that this relationship, at times, can be strained and we seek to have an open and collegial discussion about ways both sides can alleviate or eliminate pain points.

From different ways of approaching vendor relations to suggestions of low cost changes vendors could implement, we plan to outline and discuss ways both parties can reduce headaches. We will discuss small tweaks that vendors can implement to smooth workflows on both sides, share practical tips and adjustments to librarian behaviors to get the most out of the relationship, and explore ways for all to set boundaries to affect positively vendor relationships and librarians’ workloads.

Join our discussion to hear from both the presenters and the collective brainpower of Charleston about changes they have implemented, guidelines they follow, and potential for improvement on both sides. Some questions we might seek to discuss include: What is the best way for vendors to communicate important changes to your institution? How can librarians set boundaries with vendors to maximize their time? How do both sides communicate constructive feedback? How can librarians and vendors manage multiple contacts?
